Fukui Prefecture Launches ‘Fukui de Otokui Koyo! Campaign’, Offering Digital Local Currency as a Gift to Visitors : January 9, 2024 – February 20, 2024 (Check-out until February 21, 2024)

Despite the Noto Peninsula earthquake occurring on New Year’s Day, Fukui Prefecture is proceeding as planned with its “Fukui de Otokui Koyo! Campaign” from January 9 to February 20, 2024 (with check-out until February 21), due to limited damage to tourism-related facilities in the region.

This campaign gifts travelers staying in Fukui Prefecture with 1,540 yen (symbolizing “Let’s go!”) in Fukui Prefecture digital local currency, “Fukui Hapi Coins.” These coins can be used at participating lodging facilities and local souvenir shops in the prefecture. The initiative is launched just before the opening of the Hokuriku Shinkansen extension to Tsuruga, aiming to support tourism businesses during a period of potential reservation drops and to attract visitors from outside the prefecture after the new Shinkansen line opens.

The campaign targets travelers from areas along the Hokuriku Shinkansen route and the North Kanto region (Fukui, Ishikawa, Toyama, Niigata, Nagano, Gunma, Saitama, Ibaraki, Tochigi, and Tokyo Prefectures). Reservations are already being accepted.
